I Am A Wuss

Yes, I am a scaredy cat...
Yep, you read right! I am a big wuss, a sooky lala, scaredy cat. I'll answer to any of those labels.

You see, B works a rotating day/night roster, and when he is on night shift do you think I can get to sleep without imagining noises in the house and outside? It is a rare occurrence when I can go to sleep easily when he isn't home. You would think I would be used to it by now considering he has been on the same roster for 5 and a half years, but no, its still the same.

I lay awake in bed hearing things, usually nothing of consequence but occasionally it is someone at the back gate teasing the dogs or jumping our front wall to cut across our front yard (we have a corner block).

A few months back there were some break in a few houses up, well that instigated some sleepless nights too.

So I just confessed to my loony like tendency. Can you share any of yours?? Do you have trouble sleeping when there isn't another adult in the house?

I am linking up with Jess from Diary of a SAHM for I blog on Tuesdays.

  1. I just go grab a child and hug them. Better than a teddy bear, even if they offer zero actual protection.

  2. I totally get this. i too am a wuss. I get scared even when my hubby is home but goes to bed before me and leaves me to lock up.
I hear noises and am convinced someone is outside waiting to make their way in. :) xx

  3. @Blundermum-Oh, I do that too! My two eldest always seem to end up in bed with me when B is on night shift.

@Sonia- Haha, Glad to hear I am not the only one! I always go to bed before B when he is home so I don’t have to worry about that :P

    Amy xx

  4. I am exactly the same and keep checking the door locks when he is away. Sleep is difficult. Luckily hubby is not away too often.

  5. I double check all the doors, locks.. and I put the dog in my room.. having a dog really eases the mind!

  6. I'm a wuss when hubby goes away - I never sleep and end up so tired - and then end up cranky. Not a good cycle! We used to own a sword that lived under our bed which gave me some comfort - not that I would have been able to use it because it was too heavy!

  7. I'm used to it now, though I do find that I either watch tv in bed those nights or go to bed quite late to avoid the darkness.

  8. Oh my gosh - I am the exact same! And I always feel so silly that I never want to tell anyone.

I should be used to it - Mr goes away for sometimes months at a time and I usually get so scared I will only sleep a few hours (usually fall asleep at 2 or 3am when I am too tired to be scared any longer!)the whole time he is away.

  9. I'm with you, Amy. I often stay up super late so that when I finally go to bed I'm totally exhausted. It works for the sleeping thing, but it isn't so great the next morning when the kids wake me!

I also cannot sleep if I know there is a bug of any kind in the bedroom. Cockroach, Christmas beetle, any bug has got to go!

  10. Yep I'm with you. Often Boatman goes fishing over night and it terrifies me! I stay up late and imagine too many episodes of CSI.
Doesn't help that not long ago there we breakins next door and across the stree, whilst he was out. Thankfully my dog is pretty scary looking!

  11. My partner is away for weeks at a time. It is the kids that keep me up! Occasionally I will freak out a bit at some odd noise, but mostly not.

  12. I have trouble sleeping even when there is!

Actually, I used to be terribly creeped out at night and was scared to even get up and wander the house in the dark.

Becoming a single mum for a few years fixed that, because I had no choice but to be by myself, and now I'm ok.

  13. Up until 2 years ago I was a single Mum for about 8 years.... I used to get spooked pretty easily, but there's not much that can scare me when I'm all alone at night now when my partner is out late playing a gig. I've had to go round to my Mum's once when she was alone as she heard noises... and made ME go and check it out! lol
